SKILL LEVEL EXPLANATION:
Acrobatics, Ballet, Clogging, Contemporary, Jazz, Lyrical, Pointe & Tap will be adjudicated based on the level criteria listed below. Character, Dance Drill/Pom/Baton, Folk/Ethnic, Hip Hop, Modern, Musical Theatre, Open, Song and Dance will be adjudicated based on the hours per week and/or years of dance instruction. A soloist may not perform in more than one level with the same dance style. Within groups, a majority of the routine and dancers must display the appropriate level criteria. Whatever level is entered, establishes the criteria that will be taken into consideration for judging. For example: if a group enters Level 2-Intermediate, and a few dancers display Level 3-Advanced skills, please be advised that only the Level 2-Intermediate skills will be assessed. A routine may be
moved to the appropriate level if the judging panel agrees that a majority of the dancers displayed other level criteria during most of the routine. The teacher will determine what level to enter each routine. Please consider all variables of the criteria listed when choosing the appropriate level.

LEVEL 1 - Basic
• Single Pirouette
• Pas de Bouree'
• Arabesque a' Terre
• Jete'
• In Tap: Combinations in Double Time
• In Acro: Rolls, Roundoffs & Limbers
• Basic Pointe Movements
• In clogging: Fundamental steps utilizing drag/slide
• Basic Movements and Formations
• 3 hours or less and/or 3 years or less

LEVEL 2 - Intermediate
• Double Pirouettes
• Tour Jete'
• Demi-arabesque
• Grand Jete'
• In Tap: Wings, Time Steps & Combinations in Triple Time
• In Acro: Walkovers & Handsprings
• In Pointe: Single Pirouette
• In clogging: Buck, Canadian and/or Flatfooting basic movements
• Formations to All Corners
• 3 to 5 hours and/or 3 to 7 years

LEVEL 3 - Advanced
• Triple Pirouettes
• Fouette'
• Penche'
• Double Grand Jete'
• Leaps in 2nd
• In Tap: Single Wings & Combinations in Triple or Quadruple Time
• In Acro: Aerial Movements
• In Pointe: Multiple Pirouettes and/or Fouette's
• In clogging: Double Doubles in Quad time. Intricate Syncopated rhythms
• Intricate Patterning
• 5 hours or more and/or 7 years or more

Acrobatics: Routine displaying primarily acrobatic movements, flexibility, strength & control while utilizing dance choreography.
Ballet: Routine containing classical ballet movement, technique and control.
Clogging: Routine may be any style to show clogging technique and precision.
Jazz: Routine consisting of jazz technique.
Lyrical: Routine displaying balance, control and extension while utilizing a lyrical style through interpretation of the music.
Pointe: Routine displaying pointe technique incorporated with classical ballet movement and control.
Tap: Routine utilizing tap technique throughout.
Character: Any form of dance that portrays an identifiable character throughout the routine.
Contemporary: A blend of lyrical, jazz and/or modern styles incorporating freedom of movement as inspired by current contemporary choreographers.
Dance Drill/Pom/Baton: Should include precision and dance choreography. May include the use of pom pons and/or batons. Acrobatic tricks are allowed. Tossing of props, i.e. batons, are allowed. However, tossing of participants is NOT allowed. NO FIRE BATONS!
Folk/Ethnic: Routine consisting of folk/ethnic style in traditional, cultural costuming.
Hip Hop: Routine utilizing a majority of hip hop choreography throughout. Can also include any street inspired style, i.e. popping, spinning, locking, gliding,
krump, etc.
Modern: Routine consisting of modern/abstract style inspired by the pioneers of modern dance.
Musical Theatre: Any form of dance that interprets a song from a musical or movie. May utilize characterization and/or lip-sync.
Open: Any combination of dance styles. May include acrobatics or any dance style not listed.
Song & Dance: Must incorporate vocal and any type of dance choreography. Will be judged primarily on dance performance. Up to three cordless
microphones are available for vocalists, if needed.

THE FOLLOWING "BONUS CATEGORIES" WILL NOT BE BROKEN DOWN INTO SKILL LEVELS:

Production: Must be entered in group or line division. May consist of any combination of dance styles, including interesting formations, smooth entrances
and exits. 8 minute max.
Pro: This category is open (any style) for individuals 20 years of age or older, who receive monetary compensation for performing, teaching and/or judging in the dance industry. Limited to those professionals only. Can be solo, duet/trio, group or line and is adjudicated.
Pro/Am: This category is open (any style) for any entry other than solo, containing compensated professionals (as described under Pro Category) as well as
amateurs / students.
Student Choreography: Any type of dance choreography that has been taught and choreographed solely by student(s) without any assistance from teacher(s).
Vocal: This category is for vocal selections only and may include some dance choreography, but will be judged primarily on vocal performance.

THE FOLLOWING "ADDED CATEGORIES" WILL NOT BE BROKEN DOWN INTO SKILL LEVELS:

Pro Spotlight: Compensated professionals as described in Pro category. These routines are absolutely free and are considered exhibition only, therefore they
will not be adjudicated and are not eligible for awards.
Photogenic: This is an added category (please see entry form) and will be judged separately. A recent 8x10 headshot must be submitted along with entry
forms. Photos, not picked up at the end of a show, will not be returned. NOTE: On back of photo, please include student name, date of birth, studio
code and teacher.
Most Original Costume: To enter this category, the costume MUST be hand-made and decorated. NO store bought or catalog ordered costumes allowed in
this category. This is an added category (please see entry form) and will be judged separately.
ACROBATIC TRICKS: up to two, are allowed in any category. A pass is considered one trick. There is no limit of tricks in Acrobatic, Open, Dance Drill/Pom/Baton,
Productions, and the Dance "Bonus" Categories. Tossing of props, i.e. batons, are allowed. However, tossing of participants is NOT allowed.
TIME RESTRICTIONS: Solos and Duets/Trios: 3 minute max. Group and Lines: 4 minute max. Productions: 8 minute max. Vocals: 2 minutes 30 seconds minimum,
5 minute maximum. Please keep entrances & exits brief.
PROPS: Safe, freestanding props may be used, but ONLY as an integral part of the performance. Props must not display studio name. Measures must be
implemented to protect floor from damage, i.e. smooth wheels, carpeted sliders, cushioned edges, etc. In order to adhere to this regulation, props may be inspected prior to performance. The handling of props is limited to 20 seconds for set up and 20 seconds for removal. Curtain will not be closed for prop placement. NO weapons, i.e. knives, swords, etc. NO special effects, i.e. fire, smoke, special lighting, etc.
